It’s all over. The Pittsburgh Penguins are the 2016 Stanley Cup Champions.
It took a 3-1 victory in Game 6 of the Stanley Cup Final to officially get it done. This marks the fourth time in the club’s history they’ve won the cup – all with the clinching game coming on the road, this one in San Jose.
Sidney Crosby was awarded with the Conn Smyth Trophy, the first of his career. Evgeni Malkin won the award the first time around when the Pens knocked off the powerhouse Detroit Red Wings.
Tonight was simple for the Pens. They continued to ride the hot goaltending of their young stud Matt Murray and leaned on a fast balanced attack up front. Kris Letang, Brian Dumoulin, and Patric Hornqvist (empty net) were the goal-scorers.
As far as New York Rangers are concerned, this Pens Cup victory is just yet another painful reminder that when you get there, you must capitalize. Not to mention the fact that Carl Hagelin – born and bred in Madison Square Garden – just won the Cup with Sid.
