New York Mets outfielder Yoenis Cespedes tried to make one of the most miraculous catches in his team’s game against the Miami Marlins on Wednesday afternoon.

In the top of the eighth inning Cespedes was tracking a fly ball hit by Miami’s hitter Ichiro Suzuki down the left field line. The ball was headed towards the stands so Cespedes decided to leap into the stands to try to catch it.

We all knew another famous New York baseball player, specifically named Derek Jeter, who made a great catch falling into the stands.

Could Cespedes duplicate that?

Unfortunately, he couldn’t make the catch as the ball landed several rows back and he ran into a few fans on the attempt. Luckily, no one was hurt, including Cespedes.

Despite not making the play, you definitely gotta respect the effort he gave, especially since he was viewed by some as not a hustler at times. This should quiet some of the critics and it helped that the Mets finally salvaged a win, 2-1, to break a four game losing streak.

Way to go Ces.
