The NHL has made it very clear that they’re not willing to make a settlement on the concussion lawsuit between the League and former players.

As the 2015-2016 NHL season is getting closer and closer with every day, the league is making progress with their class action lawsuit between former players over safety measures. However, the progress may be moving in the wrong direction.

The NHL is not interested in engaging in settlement talks.

Yahoo Sports’ Greg Wyshynski says the NHL has taken measures in protecting their players:

“While recent signals suggest plaintiffs are anxious to begin settlement discussions (similar to what transpired in the NFL), we have indicated to them no desire to engage in such discussions, primarily because we feel so strongly in the merits of our case and the leadership role (among all sports leagues) we have taken in the study, prevention, diagnosis and management of concussions.”

Commissioner Gary Bettman had told CBS Chicago’s Chris Emma that there was no evidence linking hockey to chronic traumatic encephalopathy. As you know hockey is a very physical sport, and that’s how it’s always going to be. You simply can’t take out the hits, but you certainly do something about hits to the head and the overall safety of the players.

The lawsuit was filed in February, 2015. Sports Illustrated’s Allen Muir said that 29 players had filed the lawsuit against the NHL. The group of 29 claimed that the League, “failed to protect them against the risks of the repeated head trauma they sustained,”

As I mentioned above, you can’t take hitting out of the game. However, you can take away the illegal hits. Will the NHL gain the answer tomorrow? Probably not, and probably wont for awhile. The League is taking action though, and is working on finding an answer to these concussions and wont stop until they find an answer.
