Not only do the hapless New York Giants have to take on the mighty Chiefs, they have to deal with Andy Reid’s stellar post-bye week record.

The New York Giants are acquainted with Andy Reid. For 14 years in Philadelphia, he led his Eagles against the Jints twice a season while reaching the Super Bowl back in 2004.

One of the themes that materialized quickly in his coaching career was his squad’s post-bye success.

Reid holds a tremendous 16-2 career record following bye weeks. This includes his 14 seasons in Philly and five with his current franchise (where everything’s red), the Kansas City Chiefs.

That’s where these 2017 Giants come in. This Sunday during Week 11 of the NFL season, the Giants will look to make Reid’s post-bye record 16-3, via AP.

“A lot’s been made about that record,” Chiefs quarterback Alex Smith said. “Part of it is that he does his method the whole week, getting guys their rest, not just physically but mentally as well.”

Without having answers about his post-bye success himself, Reid tows the appropriate company line.

“Well, listen, I love every day of it,” said Reid, whose Chiefs return from a bye this week to visit the New York Giants.

“I come to work, I’m fired up to coach in the National Football League. It is a privilege. And then to work for the Chiefs is a privilege and an honor.

“You can ask me that almost every day I’m hanging with you,” he said, “that I enjoy being in here. If it’s a loss, you want to get it fixed, and then it’s a challenge. And if you’re winning, it’s still a challenge. You are still very critical of what you’ve done as a coach.”

The 6-3 Chiefs and 1-8 Giants will kickoff from MetLife Stadium at 1 p.m. ET this Sunday.
