The quarterback rumor mill is already starting to churn with the latest nugget connecting the New York Jets to Wyoming star Josh Allen.
Bleacher Report’s Matt Miller is as trustworthy as they come to in terms of sources, so his latest nugget holds some additional value:
It’s not surprising that the New York Jets would have interest in any of this year’s batch of quarterbacks. It is a tad surprising that Josh Allen is the talented youngster they’re honing in on.
He seems to be very much in the mold of another quarterback the Jets drafted in the second round just two years ago in Christian Hackenberg.

“Hackenberg has the size, athleticism and arm talent of a long-time NFL starter, but his accuracy issues go well beyond just “ball placement” problems.”
Josh Allen’s 2018 draft report via Sports Illustrated‘s Albert Breer:
“Others see the shaky accuracy and poor statistical production and can’t envision him as a first-round pick. Considering his rare combination of size, athleticism and arm strength, the debate will rage on.”
That seems eerily similar to me.
A wise man once said that insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results. Speaking of, the Jets have drafted a quarterback 11 times in the 21st century.
The Jets have taken a quarterback in seven of the past 10 NFL drafts. That’s an insane ratio, and yet the Jets will again be in the quarterback market in 2018.
Allen has posted respectable numbers in Wyoming’s offense with 1,658 yards through the air, 13 touchdowns and six interceptions. He has rushed 84 times for 207 yards and five touchdowns.
We’ll see if the Jets are intrigued enough to take their 12th passer of this century and eighth quarterback in the last 11 years. Hopefully, they’re sold on more than just the “size, athleticism and arm strength” this time around.
