The New York Mets announced their full coaching staff today who will be tasked with turning the team around from last season.
The New York Mets announced the additional members of manager Mickey Callaway’s staff on Twitter this afternoon.
Callaway spent parts of five seasons pitching in the majors before moving over to coaching. He most recently served as the Indians pitching coach, leading their star-studded pitching staff to success.
Gary Disarcina will serve as his bench coach. He spent 12 years as a shortstop with the Angels, making the All-Star team in 1995. He has managed at Single-A, managing the Lowell Spinners of the Red Sox organization from 2007-2009.
He spent last season as the bench coach for the Red Sox under John Farrell.
Dave Eiland will serve as pitching coach. He spent 10 years pitching in the majors, including five with the New York Yankees (1988-1991 and 1995).
He spent 2000-2007 with the Yankees as a pitching coach with several of their minor league teams. He was the Yankees’ pitching coach from 2008-2010. He spent last season as the Royals‘ pitching coach, a role he’s held since the start of the 2012 season.
Pat Roessler is the new hitting coach. He had been the assistant hitting coach since 2015, and served as the Yankees director of player development prior to that. He did serve as the then-Expos hitting coach from 2000-2001.
Glenn Sherlock remains the third base coach for the team. Sherlock spent some time as a catcher in the Yankees minor league system, and spent 10 years with the organization in various capacities.
He managed the Gulf Coast Yankees in 1990 and 1993, and the Fort Lauderdale Yankees in 1991. He was a catching instructor for the Yankees in 1992 and again in 1994-1995. He started as the Mets’ third base coach last season, and the team hopes his catching experience can help Travis d’Arnaud.
Ricky Bones remains the bullpen coach, a role he’s held since 2012. Bones pitched for 11 years in the majors, making an All-Star team with the Brewers in 1994, and spending part of the 1996 season with the Yankees.
Bones has been a pitching coach in the minors with the Binghamton Mets (now Rumble Ponies) and Buffalo Bisons, as well as serving as Puerto Rico’s pitching coach in the 2013 World Baseball Classic.
Ruben Amaro Jr. is the first base coach. He spent eight years as an outfielder in the majors, and was the general manager of the Phillies from 2009-2015. He’s spent the past two seasons as first base coach for the Red Sox.
Lastly, Tom Slater is the assistant hitting coach. Slater has coached in the Yankees minor league system in various capacities since 2010.
