Jimmy Vesey and Henrik Lundqvist shine as they lead the New York Rangers to a 4-2 victory over the fellow Original Six Boston Bruins.

Both the New York Rangers and Boston Bruins came into the night riding hot streaks after getting off to a poor start this season. The Bruins were missing seven regulars while the Rangers were looking to continue their positive play.

Fortunately, they received help from the struggling Jimmy Vesey.

The Rangers took advantage of a couple of Bruins turnovers where the puck would end up on Pavle Buchnevich’s stick, and Buchnevich did what he does best.

That lead didn’t last much longer though, as David Pastrnak answered the Buchnevich goal just 21 seconds later.

But the Rangers and Jimmy Vesey came right back. Vesey would find the back of the net for the first time since Oct. 31 and it was a big one that put the Rangers back on top.

Twenty-nine seconds later, Vesey would find the back of the net for the second time of the night coming up big after struggling to start the season.

The Bruins came out the better team to start the second period but Henrik Lundqvist was there to shut the door in one of his best games of the season. Lundqvist made 13 saves in the period, a period where the Rangers were outshot 13-8.

The Bruins would try to mount a comeback in the final period of regulation but Lundqvist continued to carry the Rangers making save after save. Including this remarkable save on Patrice Bergeron.

But on the shift after Lundqvist’s robbed Bergeron, Bergeron would beat Lundqvist to bring the Bruins to within one.

Rick Nash would add an empty net goal to secure the Ranges fifth straight victory. After starting the season 3-7-2, the Rangers now find themselves back in the middle of things in the East. They are now tied with the New York Islanders for the 7th place in the Eastern Conference.

The Rangers will have a couple of days off as they prepare to face former Ranger Cam Talbot and the Edmonton Oilers Saturday afternoon at the Garden.
