Celebrity Long Island check Richard Blais joins the Schwartz on Sports Podcast to discuss running in the famed New York City Marathon.

Long Island native Richard Blais grew up in Uniondale just a stones’s throw from Hofstra University where he often went to see his beloved New York Jets go through training camp.

He was also a frequent visitor to the Nassau Coliseum where he watched many Islanders games from the upper reaches of “The Barn”.

It was also on Long Island where Richard learned how to cook and his first job was at McDonalds. The ‘Top Chef All-Stars” winner has come a long way from flipping burgers and is now a highly successful celebrity chef. This Sunday, Blais will run in his 5th New York City Marathon and he will do so in support of Room to Read, a New York-based non-profit organization that funds programs in literacy and girls’ education in low-income countries.

Blais, who now lives in San Diego, joined me over the phone for the latest edition of “Schwartz On Sports” and we talk about the marathon, his highly successful career as a chef, as well as the teams he grew up rooting for. Oh and we also find out his favorite fast food restaurant! You won’t believe it!

If you don’t listen to the Top Chef start, you’ll have to pack your knives and go! You can follow the author of the new book “So Good: 100 Recipes From My Kitchen To Yours @RichardBlais. For more information on Room to Read, please go to www.roomtoread.org.
