Friday night at MSG is Kristaps Porzingis‘ time to shine now. Carmelo Anthony isn’t the main attraction anymore. The Knicks star gave his fans a reason to be excited as he led his team to a blowout victory over the lowly Phoenix Suns.
With his brother’s interview regarding his future in New York still looming, it was important for the unicorn to put up a good performance tonight and he did.
After reassuring fans that he wants to be in New York for a long time, KP went out and had his sixth 30-point game in the first eight games. The unicorn finished with a dominant stat line of 37 points (13-of-22 shooting), 7 rebounds, and 3 blocks.
Devin Booker scored 34 points for the Suns, but his supporting cast’s struggles meant his play went mostly unnoticed. That will probably be a common theme throughout the season. Fortunately, Porzingis didn’t have that problem. Five other Knicks were in double figures tonight.
Key Player
Enes Kanter was huge tonight. He had another double-double (16 points, 15 rebounds) and the team was +9 with their starting center on the court. The new Knick is fitting in like a glove.
Key Stat
The Knicks dominated the Suns in the paint, 62-42. That’s due to the play of Kanter, Porzingis, and the attacking Tim Hardaway Jr.
Up Next: The Knicks host the Indiana Pacers Sunday at 7:30 p.m. ET on MSG.
