Josh Bailey dazzled during the New York Islanders’ 5-3 victory over the San Jose Sharks with his version of the goal of the season.

How about that?

Josh Bailey, the former sixth overall pick who has for better or worse has earned the reputation as the Islanders’ weakest link, dazzled en route to one of the prettiest goals you’ll see all season.

“It’s something you take pride in, playing well on home ice,” Bailey said, referring not to his second period goal but to the Isles’ 22-4-4 Barclays Center record against Western Conference teams. He could have been referring to the former. Over the past two seasons, ‘Bails’ has been a consistent playmaker on home ice.

On Saturday night, in a 5-3 win over the San Jose Sharks, Bailey skated past a defender and around the goalie for a remarkable tally. “I was trying to pick the pass off,” he said. “It wasn’t the move I intended on doing, but it was a fun one to score.”

With John Tavares struggling (although he did record two helpers against San Jose) and Joshua Ho-Sang sidelined, highlight-reel goals have been tough to come by for the Isles thus far. No longer. Bailey’s beauty will surely be featured on SportsCenter for a long, long time.
