While the New York Yankees are hard at work in the ALCS, top prospect Gleyber Torres is working his way back from surgery.
Roughly four months after undergoing Tommy John surgery that cut his 2017 season short, top prospect Gleyber Torres is once again swinging a bat.
Torres, who was named baseball’s top prospect by MLB.com last month, shared a video of himself hitting off a tee on Twitter Wednesday afternoon.
“After long months of recovery I can finally hit again and that makes me super happy,” reads Torres’ caption to the video. “Now let’s keep working and keep improving.”
While he’s only hitting off of a tee, it’s hard for the Yankees and their fans not to get excited about the prospects of seeing Torres back on the field. Nearly everything he hit would have been a screaming line drive into the outfield, and the only way to describe the sound of the ball coming off of his bat is “sweet.”
That said, it’s far too early to start dreaming of Torres lining up at third base (or anywhere else) for the Yanks in 2018. He still has months of rehabilitation ahead of him, and it’s entirely possible that the start to his 2018 season will be delayed.
After all, there’s no reason for the Yankees to rush Torres back, especially if they decide to re-sign Todd Frazier after the season to handle the hot corner.
But seeing Torres swinging a bat again is a welcome sight.
