After the New York Yankees cut the ACLS series deficit in half, they’ll look to pull even with the Houston Astros on Tuesday night in Game 4.

The New York Yankees and Houston Astros will face off in ALCS Game 4 at Yankee Stadium tonight, as the latter leads the former two-games-to-one in the best of seven series that decides who will move on to the World Series.

Going for the Yankees following their first ALCS win since 2010 will be Sonny Gray, who will make his fourth career postseason start. The 27-year-old is coming off extended rest after taking
the loss in Game 1 of the ALDS at Cleveland on October 5. He surrendered three runs on three hits in 3.1 innings including a home run.

Gray did, however, toss a simulated game on Thursday to make sure he’s ready to go for his meeting with the best lineup in baseball. In 11 starts for the Yankees after being acquired by the Oakland Athletics, he went 4-7 with a 3.72 ERA.

Tonight’s Astros’ starter, Lance McCullers Jr. is coming off a rather similar outing to Gray. His first career postseason appearance in Game 3 of the ALDS, where he allowed two runs on three hits in three innings while striking out four.

It will be the 24-year-old’s fourth career appearance against the Yankees. In his three career starts, he has allowed no more than three runs in at least five innings with six-plus strikeouts in each.

Lineups:

No Free Passes:

Between the regular season and postseason, Sonny Gray has walked 14 batters over his last 18 innings of work dating back to September 17. A key heading into this matchup against one of those potent offenses in the game, Gray needs to keep the walks at a minimum if New York has a chance to even the series at two apiece.

This Day In Yankees’ History:

On Oct. 17, 2009, the Yankees defeated the Los Angeles Angels, by a score of 4-3 in 13 innings in ALCS Game 2, as utility man Jerry Hairston scores the winning run on a throwing error.
