Think that managing the New York Mets is a job that anyone would love to have? Think again as two contenders are out of the running.
Two fairly significant names have dropped out of the running to become the next manager of the New York Mets.
According to a report from FanRag Sports’ Jon Heyman, Brad Ausmus and Robin Ventura are no longer in the running to replace Terry Collins in the dugout.
Per Heyman, Ausmus, who compiled a 314-332 record over the past four years in Detroit, remains interested in other openings, including the job in Boston. Ventura, the former Mets third baseman who managed the Chicago White Sox to a 375-435 record from 2012-16, is said to not have a strong interest in the gig.
While it’s never a good feeling to be spurned by others, all is not lost for the Amazins.
Hitting coach Kevin Long interviewed for the opening last week, per Newsday‘s Marc Carig, while Heyman reports that Houston Astros bench coach plans to interview Tuesday before Game 4 of the ALCS between the Astros and Yankees in the Bronx.
White Sox bench coach Joe McEwing, also a former player with the Mets, is scheduled to meet with the club on Wednesday.
