Before going to Oklahoma City, Carmelo Anthony believed in July that the New York Knicks were sending him to Houston.

Carmelo Anthony always planned to go to the Houston Rockets. For months he dug in his heels hoping the New York Knicks could work something out. There was even a point this summer when he thought he’d be going there.

Frank Isola of The New York Daily News reports that Anthony told Sirius XM Radio he once thought a “deal was done with Houston”. Anthony thought it would go through in early July.

The ten-time All-Star eventually became so desperate to get out of New York that he approved a trade to the small market Oklahoma City Thunder. Anthony could’ve done a lot worse.

He may not have gotten what he initially wanted — teaming up with his banana boat buddy Chris Paul — but the Thunder have something different. They have a chance to take down the mighty Golden State Warriors.

It took until his 15th season in the NBA, but Carmelo Anthony is finally on a super team. Teaming up with Russell Westbrook and Paul George just makes sense for him right now.
