NWHL commissioner Dani Rylan joins Schwartz on Sports to discuss the new deal between the Metropolitan Riveters and New Jersey Devils.

The National Women’s Hockey League is set to drop the puck on its third season of play, but even before the very first faceoff, the league has scored a huge power play goal. Last week, the New York Riveters entered into a strategic partnership with the New Jersey Devils and becomes the first NHL team to do so with an NWHL club.

The team has been rebranded to be the “Metropolitan Riveters” and their color scheme has been changed to mirror the Devils’ red, black and white. The Riveters will call the Devils practice facility home for a second straight season but they’ll play their opening game of the season at the Prudential Center on Saturday afternoon Oct. 28 as part of a day-night doubleheader with the Devils who will play that night.

NWHL Commissioner Dani Rylan joined me over the phone for a few minutes to chat about this landmark deal, the upcoming season, and the growth of women’s professional hockey.

From the New York Times:

The Devils’ investment includes providing rent-free facilities for Riveters games and practices in Newark, and assisting in sponsorships, ticket sales and marketing. The teams declined to discuss the financial terms of the partnership.

Lucky for Elite Sports NY, NWHL commissioner Dani Rylan joined Peter Schwartz on Schwartz on Sports to discuss the rebranding and deal with the New Jersey Devils.
