FS1’s Skip Bayless decided to take on all NFL kickers. Los Angeles Rams punter Johnny Hekker struck back in epic fashion.
Skip Bayless saying things that he probably shouldn’t isn’t anything new—it’s how he not only rose to fame but continues to maintain his celebrity status. But every once in awhile, the subjects of his remarks take issue with what he said.
Enter Los Angeles Rams Pro Bowl punter Johnny Hekker.
Bayless’ initial tweet—”It is inconceivable to me that NFL games are won and lost by little guys who don’t play football: kickers. Insane. Wrong. Sad”—was in fact, insane, wrong and sad.
Hekker struck back in epic fashion, however, pointing to Bayless’ illustrious amateur basketball career. “I’m positive every single kicker averaged more than 1.4 points in high school. Most even made their varsity teams #SkipSucks.”
Back in 2012, Bayless was exposed as a fraud after being caught lying about his high school playing days. The pundit claimed that he was a starter on the Northwest Classen High School basketball team that finished as a runner-up for the state championship.
It turns out that he was a bench player who averaged 1.4 points per game—for the junior varsity squad.
Well played, Johnny. Now let’s see if you can strike that epically on Sunday, when the Rams take on the Seattle Seahawks.
