Today’s Brooklyn Nets news features former-Net Kenyon Martin calling out Jeremy Lin for his new hairstyle.

The Brooklyn Nets point guard is infamous for his ever-changing and creative hair styles. Most recently, Lin has donned African-American style dreadlocks.

He wrote a column for Players’ Tribune on his most recent haircut, and some people weren’t a fan.

More specifically, ex-Net Kenyon Martin, or “K-Mart,” publicly voiced his distaste. From Martin’s comment on Lin’s Instagram post:

“Like, come on, man. Let’s stop it with these people. There is no way possible he would’ve made it on one of our teams with that [expletive] on his head. Come on man, somebody need to tell him, like, ‘All right bro, we get it. You wanna be black. Like, we get it. But your last name is Lin.”

Lin fired back at Martin, but with more of a “killing them with kindness” approach.

“Actually I’m legit grateful you sharing it to be honest, at the end of the day i appreciate that i have dreads and you have Chinese tattoos because I think its a sign of respect. And I think as minorities, the more we appreciate each others cultures, the more we influence mainstream society. Thanks for everything you did for the Nets and hoops…had your poster up on my wall growing up.”

Martin responded in a video on his Instagram page:

“That man grown, that man can rock whatever hairstyle he want to rock. That don’t mean I have to like it or agree with it first and foremost. Second of all, I’m grown. I can say whatever I wanna say about whatever I wanna say it about. Grow up people, it was a joke.”

After Lin’s social media following began congratulating for his acclaimed win, he readdressed the situation after the Nets preseason win over the Heat.

“It’s not about winning or losing. The whole point is that we’re trying to be unified . . . The whole point is that we all have to get on the same page. I think we need to have people stop going on his page and saying racist things to him, too. That’s not OK.”

Martin played for the New Jersey Nets from 2000 to 2004. He hasn’t yet responded to Lin’s postgame statements.

You can see more of Lin’s new ‘do on Sunday. The Nets will take on the New York Knicks at Barclays Center, 7:30 PM EST.
