New York Knicks forward Michael Beasley believes he matches up with LeBron James and Kevin Durant. You have to admire his confidence.

Michael Beasley might have been born in the Baltimore area, but he feels right at home playing for the New York Knicks. Since the former No. 2 overall pick signed in New York, he’s been outspoken, to say the least.

Between his thoughts on the human brain and the Louisville recruiting scandal, Beasley’s been in the news a lot. But his latest bit of hilarity was his best so far.

The 28-year-old compared himself to the NBA’s two best players — LeBron James and Kevin Durant.

Via Yaron Weitzman of Bleacher Report:

“[It’s] mostly perception. As far as talent-wise, I match up with Kevin [Durant], LeBron, I match up with the best guys in the world,” Beasley says. “I’m not being cocky; it’s just always how I felt. But I got into trouble as soon as I got into the NBA, and it left a bad taste in a lot of people’s mouths.”

Beasley will have the opportunity to put his money where his mouth is.

He will be called upon to replace some of the scoring production that Carmelo Anthony has provided for the last seven years. That means more minutes and shots than he’s used to.
