Russell Westbrook signs a huge contract extension with the Oklahoma City Thunder while a Dallas Mavericks fan pays for Dirk Nowitzki‘s lunch.
Oklahoma City Thunder star Russell Westbrook signed a five-year, $205 million contract extension on Friday.
According to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN, the deal starts with the 2018-19 season and is the biggest guaranteed contract in NBA history, six years and $233 million through the 2022-23 season. There is a player option on the 2022-23 season also.
“When you play in Oklahoma City you play in front of the best fans in the world, I’m looking forward to bringing everything I’ve got, for them, this city and for this organization. WHY NOT?” he said in a statement.
Last year the Thunder star averaged a triple-double—31.6 points, 10.7 rebounds, and 10.4 assists—en route to being named the NBA’s Most Valuable Player.
While Westbrook just got the biggest deal in NBA history, Dirk Nowitzki of the Dallas Mavericks has been getting money from fans.
“You been taking discounts the past six years to help the team bring talent and a title,” one Mavericks fan wrote in a note to Nowitzki, per Dan Gartland of Sports Illustrated. “LUNCH IS ON ME BIG FELLA.”
Now Dirk, if you’re smart you’ll have Westbrook buy you lunch and save that $20 for a rainy day. If that doesn’t work, I’m sure Mark Cuban would be willing to treat you to lunch. After all, you’ve left plenty of money on the table for him over the years.
