Not only is Michael Kay — the New York Yankees’ television voice — looking towards an AL East crown, the team’s pitching staff is also setting records.
In addition to being the television voice of the New York Yankees, Michael Kay hosts a sports talk show every weekday live on 98.7 ESPN Radio and simulcast on the YES Network from 3 p.m. ET to 7 p.m. ET. While his show focuses on all aspects of New York sports, Kay still talks a great deal about Yankees baseball.
Yesterday, Kay explained and elaborated on a scenario in which the Yankees could still take the American League East with only four games left in the regular season. It would require the team with the best record in the A.L., Cleveland Indians, losing, the Houston Astros, who are hot on their tails, winning, the A.L. East-leading Boston Red Sox losing and the red-hot Yankees winning.
While clinching a playoff berth alone is worth celebrating, fans should be patient and wait until the Bombers are mathematically eliminated from the A.L. East crown before settling in for the Wild Card game.

On September 26, the Yankees pitching staff recorded their 1,500th strikeout of the season. Not only was this the first time a Yankee staff has ever reached this milestone but they are only the sixth team in MLB history to ever do it. The staff is led by Luis Severino, who has 230 strikeouts after Wednesday night’s game against the Tampa Bay Rays.
