With Opening Day a week away, the New York Rangers have trimmed down their roster. First-round draft pick Lias Andersson was sent back to Frolunda.

The New York Rangers announced some tough roster decisions via their official Twitter account on Thursday.

The Rangers cut seven players today. Ryan Graves, Vin Lettieri, and Neal Pionk were all assigned to Hartford (AHL). Matt Puemple will be placed on waivers today and Bobby Farnham was released from his Professional Tryout contract.

First-round pick Lias Andersson was sent back to Frolunda of the Swedish Hockey League. The ninth overall pick this year seemed to struggle at times during the preseason. He missed the final game with a foot injury suffered when he blocked a shot on Monday Night against Philadelphia.

It appears that the team’s other first-round pick this year, Filip Chytil, has made the team out of training camp. Chytil has had a solid preseason, scoring one goal in five games.

Congratulation’s to Chytil as he has won the Lars-Erik Sjoberg Award, which is voted upon by the media and given to the best rookie in training camp.
