As the New York Yankees get set to host the Tampa Bay Rays, a final week rotation has been announced that offers some clarity as to who will be starting the AL Wild Card Game.
Good morning Yankee family. A day after the honorable Aaron Judge set Twitter ablaze with his historic performance, New York Yankees manager Joe Girardi finally caved in and answered the question that he has been asked for what now seems like the last month.
Here is a look at the rotation that the Yankees are expected to run out through Friday, according to Wallace Matthews: Jordan Montgomery on Tuesday, Luis Severino on Wednesday, Sonny Gray on Thursday, Masahiro Tanaka on Friday.
Assuming that C.C. Sabathia goes on Saturday and either Montgomery or Jaime Garcia pitch on Sunday, Luis Severino is lined up perfectly to toe the rubber in the all-important American League Wild Card Game on Oct. 3.
Severino has undoubtedly been the Yankees ace this year, making his first All-Star team and even pitching his way into some well-deserved Cy Young Award votes. In 20 games this season, Severino has gone 13-6 with a 3.03 ERA, with 221 strikeouts and just 50 walks, while holding opposing batters to a batting average just above the Mendoza line at .209.
While this appears to be the way the Yankee brass are leaning, our own Christian Kouroupakis has some other ideas that could be an intriguing alternative.
Frazier: ‘Her Father Says She’s Doing Okay’
After one of the scariest moments of the season occurred that saw Todd Frazier hit a little girl with a line drive foul ball, NJ Advanced Media’s Brendan Kuty reports that Frazier has been in contact with the family and that the little girl is doing alright.
Katy went on to say that Frazier added that the girl could be released as early as Thursday, and looks forward to meeting the family upon her discharge. Frazier has been in phone contact with the father of the little girl via phone call or text message daily since the child was rushed to the hospital.
Regardless, our thoughts and prayers are most certainly with this little girl. Personally, I hope to see the family in attendance at Yankee Stadium on Oct. 3.
