Masahiro Tanaka gets shelled and Todd Frazier gets fooled as the New York Yankees get blown out in Toronto, 8-1.

The New York Yankees were victims of some stellar defensive plays and long home runs. Masahiro Tanaka got absolutely demolished in what turned out to be a blowout defeat. Toronto smashed three homers off of Tanaka and tallied eight runs.
The Yankees got on the board early in the top of the first inning. Aaron Judge did what he has done all year, and launched a 469-foot shot into the seats in left-field. When Judge’s 46th homer landed on what seemed to be the next planet over, the Yanks would have a 1-0 lead.
The lead didn’t last very long, as the Blue Jays responded rather quickly. Due to an error by second basemen Starlin Castro, the Jays were able to scrap together a run on a RBI groundout by Jose Bautista, tying the game.
The Yanks failed to score through the first three at-bats thanks to a few defensive gems by Toronto, which left the window wide open for the Blue Jays to take the lead in the third. Teoscar Hernandez cracked a moonshot way up into the second deck in Toronto. Hernandez would have his fourth homer of the year, and his team would gain a 2-1 lead.
The Bombers wasted a leadoff walk in the fourth, but Toronto was hungry for more runs. Russell Martin lined a two-run homer just over the left field wall handing Tanaka his second homer allowed of the night. Martin’s homer was his 13th of the Year and the Blue Jays extended their lead to 4-1.
An inning later, Ryan Goins got Todd Frazier at second base with the hidden-ball trick, ending any chance the Yankees had of answering Martin’s bomb.
While the Yanks bats remained silent through six frames, the Jays broke the game open with one swing of the bat. Goins was down in the count 0-2 when he launched a grand slam into the right-field seats. With one swing, Goins knocked both Tanaka and the Yankees out of the game with an 8-1 lead.
The score would hold, and the Yanks would go on to lose 8-1.
MASAHIRO TANAKA STRUGGLES
Tanaka allowed three homers and seven earned runs in the blowout loss vs the Jays. This start has to concern the Yankees going into the postseason as Tanaka projects to be their number three starter.
JUDGE ON FIRE
Aaron Judge has played his way back into the top of the MVP conversation. Going 2-for-2 with a homer and two walks tonight, Judge is now slashing .280/.416/.600 with 46 homers and 102 RBI. Judge’s September resurgence may earn him enough first-place votes to be named the AL’s Most Valuable Player.
