New York Jets head coach Todd Bowles has sent Christian Hackenberg to the bench for the foreseeable future. It could spell the end of an era before it begins.
The music has come to a screeching halt for the musical chairs at quarterback for the New York Jets. This time, I’m not talking about the starting job.Over the first two weeks of the season, the backup quarterback role has been a fluid situation. Why is anyone’s guess, but head coach Todd Bowles has finally brought things under control.
Former second-round pick Christian Hackenberg is the team’s third quarterback.
On what it says about Hackenberg that he is the third quarterback …
“He’s the newest of the bunch. The other two guys have played in the league. Bryce played the year before him,” Bowles told reporters. “[He’s] learning a new offense. He made progress. It doesn’t say anything bad about him. He made progress. His chance will come and he’ll have time to fight again.”
Oh but it does Mr. Bowles, it says that Hackenberg who was given a billion and a half opportunities in the offseason and preseason to take the job, but choked and couldn’t seize the day as Robin Williams told us to do decades ago.
If it doesn’t say anything bad about him, can he still be a productive starter in the NFL?
“He has to work his way up there. He has a lot of football to play, and he has a lot of chances to grow so as he gains experience, we’ll see.”
The Jets have drafted many quarterbacks over the years, but Hackenberg could be the biggest bust of them all. He hasn’t even played a regular season snap and the franchise has already condemned him to ineptitude?
The organization is a joke. You can’t draft a guy that high and ignore other positional needs and then not give the kid a chance where it really counts in the regular season.
How is that even remotely possible?
Blame the Jets for a lack of development. The talent was there. He was talked about as going in one of the top rounds of the draft. The quarterback purgatory that is the Jets reminds me of Taylor Swift. She goes through boyfriends like clothes but in all her songs they’re always the problem. Eventually, if you keep having the same results and you’re changing the variables, but one remains constant, I think you’re the problem, Taylor.

The round is the only thing that changed for the Jets, yet the same results kept happening. The Jets need to figure out how to properly develop a quarterback before next April when they’ll have a premium pick and they add another quarterback to this list.
How are we going to change the quarterback-developing culture that they’ve failed to ignite here on 1 Jets Drive? Insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results. Fans are hoping that this offseason that all can change for the green and white.
