The New York Mets will once again take the cautious road with starter Noah Syndergaard, whose return to the Mets will most likely be at some point next week.
According to Matt Ehalt of North Jersey, the New York Mets have decided that Noah Syndergaard will not be used on Sunday against the Atlanta Braves.
The 25-year-old has been sidelined since Apr. 30 with a torn right lat and the Mets aren’t looking to rush him back if there is still a chance that he can aggravate the injury.
Despite not starting this weekend, Dan Warthen, New York’s pitching coach, claimed that prior to this decision, he “expected Syndergaard to be available as a reliever for Sunday’s series finale.”
Mets manager Terry Collins reassured the Mets’ cautious decision as to how they would deploy the prized starter yesterday when saying that they are “just trying to make sure we do it the right way without rushing.”
The New York Mets found themselves hopeless when Syndergaard, along with plenty of their other starters went down with injuries in April and May.
Hopefully, Thor can replicate his dominance from this past April in the coming weeks, and get a head start on what should be a dominant bounce-back campaign in 2018.
