New York Rangers goalie Henrik Lundqvist recently talked to the hosts of NHL Tonight on NHL Network and touched on a number of topics heading into the 2017-18 season.

Tony Luftman and Mike Rupp of the NHL Network interviewed New York Rangers goalie Henrik Lundqvist on Monday and they had plenty to discuss.

The thing first-and-foremost on the minds of Rangers fans is how Lundqvist’s knee is feeling. The goalie sprained his MCL during the World Championships this summer.

“I’m feeling good,” Lundqvist replied. “I took some time off after the World Championships and rested up back in Sweden. But then I started training, the way I’ve trained for the past 12 or 13 years and nothing really changed. I just knew I needed an extra couple of weeks before I started training. I’ve been skating now since the start of August and, yeah, no issues at all.”

He added that he hadn’t skated with his brother, Joel, in 12 years and the chance to play with him again was a huge factor in deciding to play for Sweden.

Lundqvist also talked about the charity outdoor hockey game he and fellow teammate Mats Zuccarello will be hosting in Oslo, Norway next summer. “Zucc approached me last season about an outdoor game. I think it’s a great experience for the fans and for the players.”

Of course, Lundqvist was asked about the design of his new gear. He noted, “as a goalie, you have the chance to express yourself a little bit on the mask…  I have been working with Bauer for a lot of years. I’ll probably switch the design [of the pads] a couple of times during the year.”

Rangers training camp begins on September 14. Lundqvist and most of the New York Rangers have been skating in informal workouts at their training facility for the last week. Fans should be thrilled how upbeat Henrik sounds as he enters his thirteenth training camp.
