With the recent arrest and suspension of Craig Carton, Mike Francesa open the door to remain with the radio station longer than expected.
Mike Francesa may not be leaving WFAN as soon as he was originally expected.
The legendary New York radio host told Neil Best of Newsday “I will not turn my back on the station. Let’s see what the fall brings. I haven’t talked to anybody, but I know there are conversations ahead.”
This possible turn around by Francesca would allow WFAN/CBS to work out their next moves for the two most important shows on the station one at a time instead of simultaneously. There has been some speculation that WFAN management might ask Francesca to stay on. Mikes response to this was simple: “I understand the question; it is fair. Right now there is nothing to report. The plan remains the same.”
Since last week, the Boomer & Carton show has had guest fill in to partner with Boomer Esiason. Guests included Brandon Tierney, Phil Simms and Jerry Recco. Carton’s last show on the air was September 5. WFAN has had little to say about the situation other than announcing Carton’s indefinite suspension last week.
After the past few years of heartache and anger Mike Francesca has had towards WFAN, maybe the “Pope” has a soft spot for the station after all.
