In their home city but not on their home turf, the New York Yankees gave the city the respect it truly deserves.

In a peculiar twist of events, the New York Yankees found themselves facing the Tampa Bay Rays in a stadium that was quite unfamiliar to them both.

Their night at Citi Field started with the Yankees honoring those who lost their lives during the tragedy of 9/11 16 years ago.

In addition to their powerful moment of silence in the city that was most directly affected, the Yankees also sported new caps with a flag detail on the side.

Prior to last night’s game, the Yankees also reinstated OF Clint Frazier, who was last seen struggling with Double-A Trenton.

But before you look at the stats, just remember that the Yankees called up Matt Holliday, who was 6-for-25 in Single-A Tampa during his rehab stint.

Last night we also celebrated a special occasion for one New York Yankees player. Jacoby Ellsbury turned 34 years old and celebrated his birthday by breaking a record!

Congratulations to the Chief! He is now a record-holder not just with the Yankees but with the entirety of Major League Baseball.

We’ll pick up again tomorrow when the Yankees go back to Citi Field to take on a non-New York team again. Confusing? Yes. But it’s all a part of the game!
