Following their second consecutive road series win, the New York Yankees look to stay hot against the Tampa Bay Rays at Citi Field.
The New York Yankees and Tampa Bay Rays are slated to open up a crucial three-game set at Citi Field on Monday night in a series that could decide Tampa’s postseason chances.
Getting the start for the Yankees will be veteran left-hander CC Sabathia, who will make his 24th start of the 2017 season. Last time out, the 37-year-old allowed a season-high three home runs in a no-decision against the at Baltimore Orioles.
Since returning from the disabled list on August 19, the lefty is 2-0 with a 3.33 ERA (24.1IP, 9ER) in four starts.
Jake Odorizzi, who took a no hitter into the seventh inning his last time out against the Minnesota Twins last Tuesday, will oppose Sabathia for the Rays.
The right-hander is 5-6 with a 4.40 ERA in 13 career appearences (12 starts) against the Yankee and will be facing them for the
first time since April 2. In that contest, he surrendered four runs in six innings of work and allowed a two-run homer to Ronald Torreyes and an RBI double to Matt Holliday. This will be Odorizzi’s first career start at Citi Field.

Due to Hurricane Irma, this week’s series has been moved from Tropicana Field to Citi Field. The last time the Yankees played in a stadium that was neither at Yankee Stadium nor their opponents’ venue back in 2004 when they opened up the season against Tampa Bay at the Toyko Dome.
Player To Watch: Evan Longoria
In 76 career at-bats against CC Sabathia, Rays’ third baseman Evan Longoria is slashing .421/.522/.855 with eight home runs and 17 RBI’s. His 16 home runs at the new Yankee Stadium are also the second-most (behind Jose Bautista) among visiting players.

New York has won 14 of their last 19 series against the Rays, going 36-24 since Aug. 15, 2014. They are an overall 204-141 against them, good enough for more wins against the Rays than any other opponent in their history (next-most: Boston with 201).
Return Of Red Thunder:
The Yankees announced early Monday morning that outfielder Clint Frazier (oblique) has been reinstated from the disabled list. The 23-year-old was slashing .243/.274/.477 with four home runs and 17 RBI’s in 28 games before the injury.
This Day In Yankees’ History:
On Sept. 11, 1995, the Yankees record zero assists in a game of at least nine innings for the only time in franchise history in a 4-0 win at Cleveland’s Jacobs Field. The Indians grounded out twice, with Don Mattingly recording an unassisted putout each time.
