“Hoodie Melo” is a basketball persona that has taken over the internet this summer. Some say it’s just his go-to workout gear, but what if it isn’t?

New York Knicks forward Carmelo Anthony has been one of the most talked about stars since last season ended. Mostly for his workout shirt of choice.

Chris Brickley has become the favorite workout guru for many of the NBA’s top players. (You can read more about that here.)

Anthony has been featured more often than most and wearing a certain hoodie for all his workouts. Check this photo from Brickley’s Instagram.

As the trainer notes, no one but Anthony is sure as to why he wears the hoodie or what it means. Is it secretly his source of power, or was there just a bundle sale online?

Either way, NBA fans were shocked when they watched Anthony’s latest pickup game video, courtesy of Brickley’s Instagram.

He wasn’t wearing a hoodie, and now we’re even more confused than before. To help clear things up, I’ve provided a few (well thought out) conspiracy theories behind the sudden hoodie shortage.

He Hasn’t Picked Up his Dry Cleaning

Not impossible. Carmelo is a busy guy. Maybe he (or whoever picks up his dry cleaning) simply forgot.

LaLa doesn’t like his hoodies.

Back in April, it was reported by TMZ and many others that Anthony and his wife LaLa, were separated. Nearly five months later, the two have yet to file for divorce.

Could they be working things out?

Maybe his hoodie was the one thing in the way of their love. Difficult to tell. If they are, perhaps LaLa simply doesn’t like the hoodie look for Carmelo.

Charles Oakley needs to borrow it.

Oakley is a Knicks alumni who played for the team between 1988 and 1998. He’s an all-time great, and fan favorite among many.

Last season, however, at a Knicks home game, Oakley was thrown out. A dispute with owner James Dolan escalated, and things started to get violent.

He was banned for the rest of the season pending trial. Fans immediately adopted the hashtag #FreeOakley and rallied around him in support. Anthony wasn’t happy with the result of the incident or the state of the franchise at the time.

“What happened is just an accumulation of incident on top of incident on top of everything that’s going on, that’s surrounding the New York Knicks organization right now.”

So, all that to say. Oakley’s ban has yet to be lifted from Madison Square Garden. Maybe Anthony lent his hoodie to the retired Knick as a means of disguise.

Similar to white, Carmelo doesn’t wear hoodies after Labor Day.

Everyone knows the rule: After Labor Day white goes out of style.

Maybe the same rule applies to Anthony and his hoodies?

It would make sense, given that Labor Day was just a week ago.

Winter is coming.

So they turned the heat up in the gym, making just a t-shirt more comfortable.

(Sorry Game of Thrones fans.)

I’m not sure what’s spurned Anthony in the other direction, or who it is that’s caused this hoodie shortage.

Until he’s spotted wearing a hoodie in another workout video, I won’t stop researching to find the truth. For as a wise man once said:

Summers come and go, but Hoodie Melo is forever.
