There was nothing stopping the New York Yankees on Sunday afternoon, as the offense totaled 16 runs on 18 hits en route to a three-game series win over the Texas Rangers.

Catcher Gary Sanchez got the offense going with a solo home run in the first inning, but it was an overall team-effort that would blast the game wide open early.

Up 3-1 in the top of the fourth inning, New York put up a six spot thanks to a two-run triple by Brett Gardner, a soft single by Chase Headley, a RBI single by Didi Gregorius, a RBI double-play groundout by Starlin Castro and Aaron Judge‘s 40th home run of the season. In the blink of an eye, the Yankees led 9-1 in this crucial rubber-game.

On the other side, New York’s rookie left-handed starter Jordan Montgomery went 3.1 innings of three-run ball with three strikeouts. While not the ideal outing, reliever Chad Green came on in the fourth and turned in 2.1 innings of one-run ball in order to bridge the gap to the later innings efficiently.

After padding the lead in the fourth, Judge and Sanchez wanted more. In the top of the sixth, Judge blasted one 462 feet for his 41st homer of the year and Sanchez followed the lead by hitting his 30th homer with a distance of 461 feet.

The duo combined for five hits in six at-bats including five home runs, five RBI’s and six runs scored. Tag that along with four RBI’s from Gregorius, there’s no surprise that the Yankees were able to win their first series in Arlington since 2011.

All-Rise Into History:

When Judge finished rounding the bases following his solo blast in the fourth, he joined Mickey Mantle (1956), Joe DiMaggio (1937), Lou Gehrig (1927) and Babe Ruth (1920) as the only Yankee hitters to hit 40 home runs at age 25-or-younger.

Lone Star:

Entering this weekend, the Yankees were 7-11 in their last 18 games at Texas and had only one series win in their last eight
visits. Thanks to a dominant victory today, New York won their first series in Texas since May 5-8 in 2011.

What’s Next:

The Yankees will begin a three-game series with the Tampa Bay Rays at Citi Field on Monday night.

CC Sabathia will get the start in what will be his 24th start of the season. Last time out, the 37-year-old allowed a season-high three home runs in a no-decision on Tuesday against the at Baltimore Orioles. Since returning from the disabled list on August 19, the lefty is 2-0 with a 3.33 ERA (24.1IP, 9ER) in four starts.

First pitch is scheduled for 7:10 p.m ET and can be caught on the YES Network or on the radio at WFAN 660/101.9 FM.
