Age proved to be just a number last night as both 28-year-old Travis Taijeron and 34-year-old Jose Reyes powered the New York Mets to a 5-1 victory over Cincinnati.

In the second inning, New York Mets right fielder Travis Taijeron blasted his first career MLB home run off Reds starter Amir Garrett.

The long time farmhand had blasted a combined 137 home runs between Winter Ball and the Minors but was finally able to add an MLB dinger to his list Friday night.

One inning later, Mets infielder Jose Reyes sent a 94 mph fastball offering from Garrett 379 ft over the left field wall giving the Mets a 2-0 lead.

While the home run marked Reyes’ 100th with the club, Reyes has a career total of 138 split between the Mets, Marlins, Blue Jays, and the Rockies.

In the bottom of the fifth inning, Reyes once again victimized Garrett, belting a two-run shot to left field, scoring Mets starter Seth Lugo (6-4), and increasing the score to 4-0.

After a slow start to 2017, Reyes has quietly been one of New York’s hottest hitters and has done dangerous things over the past 60+ games.

Lugo, who entered Friday night’s tilt with a concerning 5.00 ERA, lowered it to 4.64 after tossing six shutout innings, allowing just four hits, and striking out four.

The Mets will look to increase their winning streak to four games tomorrow night when Rafael Montero (4-9, 5.21 ERA) takes on Homer Bailey (4-7, 7.24 ERA) in game three of the four-game set in Flushing.
