Ian Begley of ESPN New York reports the New York Knicks are still looking to bring in a point guard, and Trey Burke is now a candidate.

The New York Knicks have three point guards under contract for the 2017-18 season. Ramon Sessions, Ron Baker, and first-round pick Frank Ntilikina all expect to see time in the rotation, but the team is still looking to add a fourth.

At least for training camp anyway. ESPN’s Ohm Youngmisuk reported in late August that the Knicks viewed veterans Archie Goodwin and Jarrett Jack as free agent options. With news of Goodwin signing a camp deal with Portland, a new name has emerged for New York.

According to ESPN’s Ian Begley, the Knicks are interested in former Washington Wizards lead guard Trey Burke.

There’s a reason Burke’s still available. He played just one season for the Wizards and averaged career lows in minutes, points, and assists. The former Michigan Wolverine appeared in only 57 games.

At this point, the Knicks are beggars so they can’t be choosers. They signed their veteran mentor (Sessions) so bringing in another (Jacks) doesn’t make much sense on a young team.

Burke, 24, could be the way to go for Jeff Hornacek and Steve Mills.
