Today’s Blueshirt Beat covers Henrik Lundqvist on television, a Jesper Fast injury update, and thinking back to “the Captain.”

Henrik Lundqvist was a guest on the Live with Kelly and Ryan show today.

He discussed going back to Sweden to see family and friends and also winning a championship with his brother Joel Lundqvist.

“It was amazing”, Lundqvist said.

Then the show took a more comedic turn.

Ryan Seacrest jokingly donned some goalie gear, while Lundqvist and co-host Kelly took turns shooting.

The Rangers goalie may be better off as just that, considering he scored zero goals against a talk show host.

On the injury front, Larry Brooks tweeted today that Rangers first round draft pick Filip Chytil suffered a groin strain, though nothing serious.

He will not participate in the Traverse City tournament later this week but hasn’t been ruled out of participating in training camp. Hopefully, he recuperates from this injury soon and can get back on the ice.

Elsewhere in Rangers’ news, Jesper Fast skated today and said his hip was feeling better than expected.

It was also announced that Fast will wear number 17 next season. New York will retire his previous number 19 for longtime Ranger Jean Ratelle in February.

On this date in 2003, the New York Rangers re-signed Mark Messier to a one-year contract. It would be the 25th and final NHL season for Messier.
