There’s mutual interest between the Brooklyn Nets and big man Jared Sullinger. All signs are pointing to him joining the roster.
Jared Sullinger was drafted by the Boston Celtics in 2012. After five years with the team he was traded to the Toronto Raptors.
Sullinger broke his foot only 11 games into his Raptors career. He was then traded to the Phoenix Suns and waived shortly thereafter.
Monday, Brian Lewis of the New York Post reported that Brooklyn was scouting Sullinger for the second time this summer.
David Falk, Sullinger’s agent, told Stefan Bondy of the New York Daily News that the big man was “exploring the opportunity” of signing with the team.
Sullinger’s agent had nothing but positive things to say about the atmosphere in Brooklyn.
“I’m a big fan of the coach (Kenny Atkinson),” Falk said. “He’s a great motivator, and they have a great facility.”
A picture surfaced Tuesday of Sullinger working out in Nets gear with guard D’Angelo Russell. It’s safe to say he’s leaning in one direction.
The Nets have one roster slot open and can offer Sullinger the veteran minimum. Should he accept the one-year deal, he would make just $1.7 million.
It’s an opportunity to reboot his career, and arguably in the best place to do it.
In his last season with the Celtics, Sullinger averaged 10.3 points and 8.3 rebounds per game.
With obvious signs of mutual interest and talks advancing, this signing is nearing reality for the Brooklyn Nets.
