Due to yet another injury, the New York Mets have called Travis Taijeron from Triple-A Las Vegas.
Yoenis Cespedes was the latest member of the New York Mets to land on the disabled list, leaving Friday’s game against Washington with another hamstring injury.
So it’s time for the next man up—Travis Taijeron.
The 28-year-old California native was drafted in the 18th round of the 2011 MLB Draft out of Cal Poly Pomona. Taijeron is 6’2″, 220 pounds and bats right handed.
It could be argued that Taijeron should have been called up a long time ago. He was hitting .272 in Triple-A with 25 home runs, 32 doubles, 78 RBI and a .907 OPS.
Taijeron has flashed his power at nearly every minor league level he’s played. Since 2011, when he began his professional career, he’s hit .269 with 135 home runs, 200 doubles, 20 triples, 479 RBI and a .884 OPS.
He will bat seventh in his big league debut, in between Kevin Plawecki and Brandon Nimmo, both of whom he’s played with in the minors.
