The New York Yankees just learned about the repercussions of their fight yesterday and it’s not ideal going into the playoffs.
After the dust has finally settled from yesterday’s massive brawl between the New York Yankees and Detroit Tigers, we can all laugh it off.
Right? Wrong. Today, Major League Baseball released their list of suspensions and fines from yesterday’s midday melee. And several Yankees made that list.
As posted by MLB Communications on Twitter, both Gary Sanchez and Austin Romine earned themselves suspensions. However, several other Yankees received undisclosed fines.
At least the Sanchez/Romine suspensions will even out, especially if Sanchez appeals. Miguel Cabrera, on the other hand, was viewed as the aggressor, receiving seven games for his role in starting the fight.
Even more surprising were the fines given to Garrett Cooper and Clint Frazier, despite their limited roles in the scrum. Their fines were due to being on the field while being on the disabled list.
I’m sure you’ve watched the skirmish over and over again since yesterday, but the shock really comes from the fact that neither Dellin Betances or Michael Fulmer received any sort of punishment for hitting batters yesterday.
