After being swept in the Subway Series, the New York Mets were hoping to get back on track against Miami. They did not.

The Miami Marlins got on the board early when J.T. Realmuto blasted a 364-foot home run off New York Mets starter Chris Flexen (2-2) in the second inning.

Miami was able to score again in the following inning when outfielder Marcell Ozuna scored Giancarlo Stanton on a sacrifice fly.

It wasn’t until the third inning when the Mets would score their first and only run of the ballgame. Wilmer Flores singled in Juan Lagares and cut Miami’s lead to two.

Flexen wasn’t all that bad tonight, surrendering three earned runs over 5.1 innings.

After Flexen was pulled, Mets relievers Josh Smoker, Paul Sewald, and Jerry Blevins combined for 3.2 scoreless innings and allowed no hits.

On the other hand, Marlins hurler Justin Nicolino (2-1) was able to allow just one earned run over five innings, and Miami’s bullpen was just as dominant as New York’s.

Dustin McGowan, Drew Steckenrider, Kyle Barraclough and Brad Ziegler combined for four scoreless innings and shut down any attempts at a comeback.

The Mets will look to get back in the win column when Rafael Montero (1-8, 5.80) toes the rubber against Vance Worley (2-2, 4.97) in game two of the series.
