According to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN, the Knicks and undrafted rookie Nigel Hayes reached an agreement on a partially guaranteed contract.
The Knicks liked what they during summer league from former University of Wisconsin star Nigel Hayes. He’s going to be on the roster for awhile longer.ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reports that Hayes and the Knicks have agreed to a partially guaranteed deal.
The 22-year-old will likely not provide much of a spark on offense. His summer league numbers are proof of that.
During six summer league games, Hayes averaged just 4.3 points on 41.4 percent shooting. He was third on the team with 4.2 rebounds.
Hayes isn’t making the team for his stats. It’s reminiscent of the Marshall Plumlee signing from a year ago. The former Knick was a hustle guy who rebounded well for the time in small spots. Plumlee, released by the team on July 7, is still looking for a job.
New York already has another undrafted rookie under contract – Vanderbilt’s Luke Kornet. He’s signed to a two-way contract; meaning he can spend a finite amount of time with the Knicks and the rest of the season in Westchester.
