More bad news comes out of the Bronx this morning as Masahiro Tanaka was placed on the 10-day DL for the New York Yankees.

Good thing the New York Yankees have a wealth of pitching depth in their system because another starter bites the dust.

Masahiro Tanaka, who has looked like anything but the ace he once was, has officially been placed on the 10-day with right shoulder inflammation, the Yankees PR department announced this morning.

In the corresponding move, Giovanny Gallegos will make his return trip to the Bronx.

Tanaka has pitched for the Yankees for four years and has been on the DL at least once for three of those seasons. 2016 was the first year he successfully avoided the DL. However, this marks the first time he has been on the DL for shoulder inflammation.

Of course, this injury comes at crunch time, where the Yankees lose a key starter down the stretch. However, Tanaka has not looked normal at all this season.

He has posted a 8-10 record in 23 starts with a 4.92 ERA, a career-high. He also has allowed 28 home runs, another career-high.

Hopefully this will give him time to fix his arm and his mindset before returning for the last part of the season. No matter how badly Tanaka has performed, his arm will be missed in the rotation.
