New York Rangers sophomore winger Pavel Buchnevich has spent his summer skating—and seeing parts of the world for the first time.

As Pavel Buchnevich begins to skate again prior to the beginning of training camp. Matt Calamia from the New York Rangers official website spoke with the 22-year-old and discussed his summer so far.

“I went home to Russia for a month,” Buchnevich said. “I then went on vacation to Dubai. Just chilled. A little practice and a little skating with some guys once I got back to New York.”

His skating and workouts were limited while he was in Russia. “There’s just a little, small gym in my home town. We don’t have a good gym or a good trainer. Just a little skating.”

A third-round pick (75th overall) in the 2013 NHL Draft, Buchnevich is coming off a season that saw him put up 20 points (8 goals, 12 assists) in 41 games. With the Rangers always in need of more scoring, they could use a breakout season from No. 89.

As for his trip to Dubai, it sounds like it was a one-time deal for Buchnevich. “It was so hot. I’ll never go again. It was my first time. The weather was not that good. Just chilled. Swam for a couple of hours and then went into the air conditioning.”
