New York Giants quarterback Geno Smith not only played to his regular “strange” standards, but used the wrong MetLife entrance.

“Oh, poor Geno.”

Those were the words of ESPN’s Dianna Rusinni prior to the New York Giants preseason opener in East Rutherford on Friday night.

Geno Smith thought he knew the proper way to enter MetLife Stadium.

No Geno. Your Football Giants do things differently.

In any event, Geno made it to the locker room and strapped on the pads to experience his first action in blue. And much like Geno’s done over the course of his four-year NFL career, he provided strange results.

Finishing 10-for-16 for 114 yards and one interception, Smith offered up a classic mixed-bag. At times, he looked in total control of the offense. The command was present and the offense only started moving the ball once he was inserted by Ben McAdoo.

Josh Johnson started the game and played with the first team, finishing 5-of-10 for 31 yards. He was under duress for the most of the first team snaps. The offensive line, namely Ereck Flowers, looked horrible early on.

In addition to Geno’s lone interception, another was called back via penalty.

But that classic Geno in a nutshell. He’ll wow you with his physical traits and then do something so boneheaded that it’ll knock you on the floor. In all, Geno probably received the slight edge in play over the incumbent, but it was close considering the former matched up against the second team defense.

The Pittsburgh Steelers took the contest by the final of 20-12.
