Ezekiel Elliott was suspended for six games for violating the NFL’s personal conduct policy after being accused of domestic violence a year ago.

Dallas Cowboys running back Ezekiel Elliott has been suspended for six games by the NFL on Friday for violating the league’s personal conduct policy.

The suspension comes after a year-long investigation after Elliott was accused of domestic violence by his ex-girlfriend. In September, the Columbus City attorney’s office in Ohio announced that Elliott wouldn’t be charged because of conflicting and inconsistent information. The NFL said the investigation took so long because the NFLPA delayed delivering requested information for six months.

The running back has denied the allegations and was disappointed with the NFL’s ruling. He will appeal the suspension.

“The NFL’s findings are replete with factual inaccuracies and erroneous conclusions and it ‘cherry picks’ so called evidence to support its conclusion while ignoring other critical evidence,” Zeke’s representatives Frank Salzano and Scott Rosenblum said in a statement, per Todd Archer of ESPN.

The NFL said in a statement that the independent advisors who reviewed the evidence that the league had gathered “were of the view that there is substantial and persuasive evidence supporting a finding that [Elliott] engaged in physical violence against Ms. Thompson on multiple occasions during the week of July 16, 2016.” The league said in its letter to the running back that it found the “photographic and medical forensic evidence corroborates many critical elements of the allegations regarding the causes of her injuries,” according to Austin Knoblauch of NFL.com.

Zeke led the NFL in rushing last year with 1,631 yards on 322 carries and had 15 rushing touchdowns. He also had 32 catches for 363 yards and one touchdown. If he loses the appeal he won’t be able to return until Oct. 23.

The Cowboys will have Darren McFadden, Rod Smith and Alfred Morris as their running backs while Elliott is suspended.
