Finally, the New York Mets are calling up first base prospect Dominic Smith to the big leagues. He’ll join the team Friday in Philadelphia.
Thursday, New York Mets general manager Sandy Alderson announced that first base prospect Dominic Smith is being called up to the big leagues. It’s about damn time.
Earlier this month, when the Mets promoted shortstop Amed Rosario to the big leagues. New York hinted that Smith would be brought up shortly after Rosario.
“Dom, we want to make sure, as with Amed, when he comes here, he gets most of the playing time. I expect that will be in the near future, but I can’t give you a specific time frame,” Alderson said last week, per Kristie Ackert of the New York Daily News. “I have said that we prefer to see him earlier than Sept. 1, and I think we will. But other than that, I can’t be more specific.”
Smith, who is the Mets number two prospect, was hitting.330 with 16 home runs and 76 RBI this season for Triple-A Las Vegas. He also had an on-base percentage of .386.
Come Friday, he’ll finally be in the majors where he belongs.
