In a season that will be full of quarterback questions, QB Christian Hackenberg appears to have failed to do the simple things at New York Jets practice.

So, apparently, the New York Jets just can’t have nice things.

Sports Illustrated’s Peter King reported in his weekly Monday Morning Quarterback segment that second-year quarterback Christian Hackenberg was thrown off the practice field for failing to break a huddle correctly.

This obviously isn’t a good thing, but it also isn’t a big deal. It isn’t proof he doesn’t know how to break a huddle — players get distracted.

Hackenberg is learning a new offense and training camp is when the new plays and terminology gets added. If this was one of the first times they were running this play, a million things could have been going through his mind. Hackenberg could have been running through the routes in his mind or could have been thinking of the terminology of an audible or of a protection shift on the offensive line.

This is a comedic thing, and it’s going to get some jokes made about it. But it isn’t a huge deal provided that it doesn’t happen again. It can be pretty easily explained.

As long as it doesn’t keep happening, it shouldn’t make much of a difference in the Jets quarterback competition.
