Highlights galore came from the New York Jets Green & White Scrimmage at MetLife Stadium on Saturday night including Marcus Maye’s pick-six.
Saturday night showcased the New York Jets annual Green & White Scrimmage at MetLife Stadium. On a yearly basis, this is the first true game action of the season.
Well, “true” is a bit much. It’s the first game-type action experienced since the pads were strapped on when camp commenced.
In 2017, thanks to the variety of this inexperienced roster, many new individuals experienced their first Green & White scrimmage. One of these guys is rookie safety Marcus Maye who came up with the highlight of the night by taking a Josh McCown pass the other way for his first professional pick-six (albeit, in a scrimmage). He jumped in front of Robby Anderson and took it back 60 yards for the score.
McCown wouldn’t be out done by anybody on this night, though. He connected with Austin Seferian-Jenkins for a score and also connected on a deep one with young Chris Harper.
The most positive news of the night came in the form of Christian Hackenberg who impressed the crowd from start to finish.
He finished 3-for-5 for 45 yards on the night, connecting with rookie tight end Jordan Leggett on a score. Despite the lack of reps, 12, he was the most impressive Jet QB of the night.
McCown completed 8-of-13 for 113 yards with two touchdowns and an interception in 21 reps. Petty went just 4-of-12 passes for 44 yards.
McCown was impressed by Hack’s play, via Daniel Popper of the New York Daily News.
“It was awesome. It was a heck of a throw. I think those are some of the things that get you excited about Hack,” the 38-year-old journeyman said. “That was one of those plays for Christian, no doubt. To step up and avoid the rush like he did and then to deal one in there, showing off his arm talent and his accuracy, that’s obviously why he was drafted where he was and what gets you excited about him.”
