While the New York Yankees search for their first win this month, the noise Miguel Andujar continues to make is reaching deafening levels as the big money vets continue to struggle.
Good morning New York Yankee family! Although, with a 0-4 start to the month of August, there’s not too much good to be found in Yankee Universe at the moment. But Miguel Andujar isn’t letting the big club’s woes affect his play down on the farm.
While Aaron Hicks and Tyler Austin continue their rehab assignments at Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre (which ESNY’s own Christian Kouroupakis and Emmanuel Berarbi have been reporting live on), it’s the hot-hitting third base prospect Andujar that has continued to thrive both with the bat and at the hot corner.
In a game won by a Tyler Austin two-run walk-off blast, Andujar cleaned up by going 3-for-4 to bring his season line to an impressive .322/.355/.516 with an eye-popping .924 OPS.
The third baseman made his Major League debut earlier this season during his brief cup of coffee with the Yanks, but with the continued futile performances of players like Matt Holliday(.229/.319/430) and newly acquired Todd Frazier(.207/.329/.418), it may be time to get this kid back up to the Bronx.
It’s not just those two guys, however, as the team as a whole has gone 3-for-26 (.115) with runners in scoring position this month. Seriously, not good. Now, it’s seems more than likely that the Yanks will bring Andujar back up during the month of September with their roster expansion. However, if they want to keep themselves in this playoff hunt, his promotion may need to come sooner than that.
History Made
There are not too many positives to take away from last night’s 7-2 loss to the Cleveland Indians, but there was a bit of history to touch on from their newly acquired southpaw Jaime Garcia.
Garcia became the first starting pitcher since Gus Weyhing in 1895 to start three straight games for three different ball clubs (Atlanta, Minnesota, New York). Things looked a bit differently back then, as Weyhing set the record by starting for Philadelphia, Pittsburgh and the Louisville Colonels.
Here’s to hoping that the New York Yankees can start making some more meaningful history with their on-field play rather than having to find some silver lining in yet another brutal loss.

He should be with the Yankees even if it's as a DH. Also, with Aaron Hicks, Greg Bird, Austin Tyler, they would have a more consistent offense. They need to re-arrange their 25 man roster, especially position players. No clutch hitting with these current players. It might be too late in the season, but Gary Sanchez should've been sent down at least a month ago as a discipline for his careless, sloppy play. That would be a wake up call for him and may change his attitude. Right now, with last years fame and success, he thinks that he is irreplaceable. When he was in the minors, I don't recall who, someone gave Sanchez a discipline talk and he reacted. Maybe he needs it again. Reminds me a bit of Jesus Montero, but he was much worse than Sanchez.
