Taking the hill in the series finale for the Bombers will be Masahiro Tanaka, who’s making his 22nd start of the season. Last time out, the 28-year-old recorded an MLB career-high 14 strikeouts and took home the win on Friday against the Tampa Bay Rays. He has also recorded at least eight strikeouts in six of his last nine starts (74K in 57.2IP).
For Detroit, Jordan Zimmerman gets the ball for his 21st start of the season looking for success against a team he has some against.
In three career starts against the Yankees, the right-hander is 2-0 with a 1.80 ERA and just 12 hits allowed in 20 innings of work. His last start against New York was on April 8, 2016, at Comerica Park, when he earned the win after tossing seven scoreless innings with just two hits allowed and three strikeouts.
