Yet another member of the New York Mets is headed for the disabled list. This time its utility infielder T.J. Rivera.
The New York Mets announced Friday that infielder T.J. Rivera has been placed on the 10-day disabled list with a partially torn UCL in his right elbow. His placement on the DL is retroactive to Thursday, July 27.
According to Kristie Ackert of the New York Daily News, Rivera had been having elbow pain for about a week. He received a platelet-rich plasma injection which, according to MLB.com’s Anthony DiComo, the team hopes will allow him to avoid Tommy John surgery.
While Rivera has spent most of his time at third base this season, the 28-year-old has bounced around the field as needed. Over 73 games, he’s posted a slash line of .290/.330/.430 with five home runs and 27 RBI.
Per Daniel Kramer of MLB.com, the Mets activated second baseman Neil Walker and outfielder Brandon Nimmo from the disabled list before Friday night’s game against Seattle. They optioned right-handed pitcher Tyler Pill to make room on the roster.
