The New York Yankees bullpen may have been sponsored by Aleve for a while but it’s only recently taken on a different meaning.

The bullpen was once lights out for the New York Yankees. There was no fear of allowing runs to cross the plate. There was no fear of blowing a 3-run lead.

Now, it’s a headache waiting to happen, with command issues, walks galore and hit-batsmen to boot.

Good thing the bullpen is sponsored by Aleve Pain Relief. So now we know that as we’re watching the ‘pen implode from the inside-out, we are reminded that Aleve is ready to give us some relief when our bullpen cannot.

In fact, the Yankees twitter has taken to advertising via hastags as well, as though the banners in the Yankee Stadium bullpen aren’t enough.

I mean, what was the thinking behind this? Yes, the bullpen is supposed to provide relief. But once the Yankees started losing, we needed relief since the bullpen no longer provided it for the starting pitchers.

Of course that advertising backfired on the Yankees. Now it is just a laughable ad we see every time that we simply want to break down and cry as a direct result of the ‘pen…or sometimes directly from Dellin Betances and Aroldis Chapman.

But for Aleve, I bet it’s great. The bullpen gives us pain and at least we know to turn to Aleve to help ease that pain that seems to always be caused by the Yankees closers.

Hopefully that pain will subside with the additions of Tommy Kahnle and David Robertson. But if it doesn’t and the bullpen continues to be a thorn in our side, at least we know what medicine to turn to.
